King of the Hill – The Range Rover Evoque Convertible

In Land Rover by Jonathan Humphrey

King of the hill, Best on the Block, Go Wild in the Country. Range Rover has just announced the ultra versatile SUV to leave the competition in the dust.

Although there are no production plans confirmed, this could surely be the worlds first premium convertible SUV. Having last week just driven the Evoque, a car that intrigued me, but didn’t really strike me. Now I actually have driven the two door, I now realise what all the fuss is about. The quietness, the smoothness a totally New Range Rover and one that really does it. What will Victoria Beckham make of this one?

In this concept the distinct Evoque shape has been enhanced even more. The roof will have a Roll Over Protection System nicknamed ROPS and it hides itself brilliantly above the drop down tailgate. Inside the SUV the concept will be stuffed with the latest tech- Terrain Response, surround cameras, park assist, and a  full class leading Meridian infotainment system.

The concept has been developed by the Design  team at Land Rover Design  led by Gerry McGovern.

“The Evoque lends itself beautifully to the idea of a convertible. This study is not a traditional convertible design execution – instead we have worked with the balance of the Evoque’s lines to retain its distinctive shape and create something that is unique and, we believe, highly desirable.” McGovern said, commenting on the concept.

John Edwards, Land Rover Global Brand Director commented: “The Evoque Convertible Concept is a new twist to the Evoque story. We are excited to see the response to this concept as we assess the potential for building on the Evoque’s exceptional success so far.”

My Interpretation of that is – “Watch This Space.” and not just for this but the New Defender
