James Hunt’s racing helmet at Silverstone Race Retro Auction.

The most flamboyant of F1 drivers, this helmet is one of the star automobilia lots at Silverstone Auctions’ forthcoming Race Retro Sale on the 22-23rd February.

With an estimate of between £18-25,000 the helmet was used by Hunt in the penultimate season in 1978 with McLaren. Black with three coloured stripes, James Hunt’s name and Marlboro, Texaco and Goodyear advertising logos, excellent condition available for sale for the first time in over 20 years.

This auction entry comes just days after the announcement that Hunt is to join MotorSport Magazine’s Hall of Fame in 2014.
