A MERCEDES-BENZ once owned by Elvis Presley has been sold for more than £80,000.
The car went under the hammer on Monday at Mercedes-Benz World in Brooklands and was eventually sold to a mystery German buyer.
The powder blue 1970 Mercedes-Benz 600 Saloon Limousine was one of just a handful of cars the King of Rock and Roll registered himself.
He owned it for two years before giving it to one of his friends James Leroy Robinson, who sold it on despite attempts by the Elvis Presley fan club to keep it in the United States as a national treasure.
In the end the historic motor went for just half its estimated price – although it avoided being returned to vendor.
Tim Schofield, of Bonham’s in Surrey, who auctioned it, said: “The estimate was a little foolish. The car’s worth £40,000 but because this one belonged to Elvis £80,700 is about right.
