In a tribute to the Monkees, a brilliant custom car.’the Monkeemobile’ was being auctioned by Historics at Brooklands. The iconic 60’s muscle car was featured in much of the Monkees TV series from 1966 – 1968. The zany vehicle was sold to its new owner by Historics for £75,900.
[portfolio_slideshow include=”4573,4572,4571,4570,4569″]The ‘Monkeemobile’ created and built by designer Dean Jeffries starred in the TV show and many stage tours. The car featured a forward tilting split two-piece windshield, T-bucket-type convertible hood, modified rear quarter panels and front fenders, exaggerated rear tail lamps, four bucket seats and bench seat and a useful parachute!
In June 2011, three original members of the Monkees were re-united with this 2011 Monkeemobile Tour Car authentically created in New York from a 1966 Pontiac GTO by James Benken, a specialist US East Coast film car custom shop. The car was shipped to the UK ahead of their 2011 tour. Since the vehicles arrival in Liverpool the car has been driven by all three stars, been on many TV cameos and been shown at exhibitions and shows nationwide. The car was signed by the Monkees before the auction.
The Anglo American group the Monkees was composed of Micky Dolenz, Michael Nesmith, Peter Tork and Englishman Davy Jones the band went on to sell 65 million copies worldwide.
