One of the most beautiful cars ever built a 1936 Bugatti Type 57SC Atlantic was sold at auction last week 5 May 2010 in Santa Monica, California for between $30-40 million. One of only three built this 200bhp Bugatti Atlantic with a top speed of over 120mph was a restored example. It won the 2003 Pebble Beach Concours D’elegance and was owned by a late Dr Williamson and part of his private collection of Bugattis.Sold by renowned auction house Gooding and Company it totally eclipsed the sale of the previously most expensive car a 1957 Ferrari 250 Testarossa which sold for around £8m last year at this time and the £7m paid by our own Radio 2 presenter Chris Evans when he bought the Ferrari 250 GT SWB California Spider owned by James Coburn.
