Sometimes you think a car has reached its absolute best, and sure enough, just two and half years later, out comes an even better Genesis Electrified GV70
Car Reviewed: NEW GENESIS ELECTRIFIED GV70 (MY25)
The Genesis GV70 is a refined, elegant, and dynamic SUV, and the last one was my wife’s favourite car. Now, just 2.5 years after its introduction, the GV70 has been lavished with a plethora of upgrades across the entire vehicle, making it something even more special.
In an inflating world, Genesis has managed to do all this with just a £1500 addition to the price across the three versions, Pure, Dynamic and Luxury, from £65,915, £70,715 and £74,915 with a 5-year unlimited mileage warranty/free roadside assistance and the batteries covered for 8 years up to 100k miles.
So what’s new? The front has been revamped with Micro Lens Array headlamps and a new Grille with an updated Genesis Emblem.

Featuring an upgraded powertrain with 429hp and enlarged battery packs of 84kWh up from 77kWh for improved range, faster charging, and enhanced performance. O-62mph in just 4.4 seconds with the addition of an addictive boost button upping the power to 483hp when pressed. The interior has undergone a significant upgrade, now featuring a massive 27-inch OLED virtual display. The infotainment system now enables services such as Netflix, YouTube, Bloomberg, and Disney while charging, not while driving.
The first Genesis cars made the way to the UK in 2021; it takes time to introduce a new brand, and being part of the giant South Korean Hyundai Group, the resources available to make a success are available from engineering, production, marketing and finance, and a cool Californian design centre, alongside R&D in Germany. This year, Genesis is competing in their first WEC championship, with Le Mans coming up very soon.
Back to the car, it’s almost perfect in many ways. On the inside, the choice of well-chosen, soft-touch, tactile materials makes it a desirable and relaxing place to be. With a selection of mood lighting, mood curation featuring scents and massage seats. It has it all. I really like the flat bottom steering wheel and the metallic touches in the cabin. Driving in the daytime, I didn’t get an opportunity to see the mood lighting. The ergo motion massaging seats worked well. Another nice touch is the Digital Centre Mirror, which can also be set to analogue. Although it takes a little while to get used to, using the digital setting, it offers a much greater field of view and works by utilising a camera feed from the rear spoiler.

The dashboard is a feast of information with the OLED display, one of the finest and most extensive in any vehicle; the software is snappy to use and totally intuitive. Within the system and sounding great, the Bang & Olufsen system features fifteen speakers with Dolby Atmos, creating a totally immersive sound experience. The heating and ventilation settings are all easy to find and nicely positioned, where you would want to find them, below the screen as physical buttons. The addition of ANRC active road noise cancellation eliminates any road noise, and with triple-sealed doors, this is all quite upmarket; silence is golden.
Driving in the GV70, there is no shortage of power; 490PS is available, and you’ll experience an addictive rush of power with the use of the steering wheel Boost button. The added assurance of AWD from the 360 kW dual-motor powertrain. A 0-62mph of 4.4 seconds, with dynamic torque vectoring. As a luxury SUV, it is easy to drive and handles in a composed fashion; it can be more than sporty when you want it to be.
The GV70 is equipped with smart regenerative braking combined with i-Pedal. There are also switchable driving modes for both on- and off-road use, including Sport, Normal, and ECO, as well as Snow, Sand, or Mud for extra grip. An advanced, selectable virtual Gear shift is something new, simulating a conventional gearbox and making the drive more engaging. There is also synthesised sound to make the lack of an engine sound like an engine, should you want it.
The battery has been upgraded to 84kWH, with the car now boasting a range of up to 298 miles. With 800V charging, it makes adding charge faster and more consistently reliable, with a 10-80% top-up in just 19 minutes. Charging is also improved using a manually operated intelligent battery heating system, which is particularly beneficial in colder weather. A heat pump is available as standard for enhanced cabin comfort and battery management.
Enhancing comfort even further, a new AI-enhanced system continuously monitors the road surface in real time and adjusts the car to its optimal settings, thereby smoothing the ride.
From the outside, the look has been enhanced to give an athletic style. The new grille features an electric and heated cover for charging point access, along with the Micro-Lens Headlights.

With new choices of 19″ and 20″ diamond-cut alloy wheels and 13 colour choices in very well-selected colours, available in Matte, Metallic Pearl, and Solid finishes.
What else, digital Key and fingerprint authentication allow you to keylessly unlock the car and get going with your smartwatch or device. The ability to start, drive and park your vehicle securely without a key.
Remote Parking Assist 2 enables you to exit the car and remotely park the GV70, controlling it using the key fob. Alternatively, while in the car, the parking system can also be operated; the system now allows perpendicular, parallel and diagonal parking.
The centre console includes UV light sanitising inside the armest. To sanitise your phone on the go. V2L is available, enabling you to plug in devices, charge electric bikes, boil a kettle, BBQ, and more when you’re out and about. Additionally, you could use it to power your home.
Genesis cars can be purchased seamlessly through their website or at their studios in London, Westfield, Battersea, and Edinburgh. It also has retail partners throughout the UK, with more being added this year. The service is by concierge, with your car taken away for servicing and maintenance and a similar loan car is provided.
The time has come to think of Genesis when making your selection. Not anymore do only German brands offer what you may want and desire in a car.
