Detroit muscle fans alert, order books are now open for the new 2012 Chevrolet Camaro. Priced at just £34995 on the road or £39995 for the soft top, a fine car for the Richard Hammond types this summer.
The new Camaro provides all the machismo of the original muscle cars – performance, macho looks and pound for pound, value for money. Surprisingly, all models come with a six-speed manual gearbox,the option of a six-speed automatic transmission is a further £1,500. Power comes from a massive 6.2-litre V8 engine developing 432PS or 405PS with the auto box. 0-62mph acceleration is between 5.2 seconds manual Coupe and 5.6 seconds for the automatic Convertible. All are electronically limited to a top speed of 155mph.
The manufacturer is also offering, for a limited time only, the 2012 Chevrolet Camaro 45th anniversary model, finished in striking Carbon Flash Black with bespoke red and silver anniversary stripes, dark silver 20-inch alloys, a special leather interior with red, white and blue stitching and a one-off white-backed instrument panel. It’s priced at £36,495 for the Coupe or £41,495 for the Convertible.
