It seems Lord Sugar, David Beckham and Simon Cowell have got it right, it appears you will pay less to drive through central London in the cocooned luxury of your Rolls Royce Phantom than users of London Transport
Tube fares can be 50 percent more expensive than being driven and chauffeured over the same distance according to the Environmental Transport Association.
This week with their GREEN TRANSPORT WEEK running from the 20th-26th June the ETA are encouraging drivers to think along the lines of sustainable alternatives than driving in their cars. The charity is very concerned that the high public transport fares dissuade motorists of leaving their cars for greener transport options.
Hire costs for a Rolls Royce Phantom in central London start at £200 per hour including a chauffeur – equalling £16 per mile in Central London. A single tube ticket can cost as much as £24 per mile. However the Rolls Royce emissions dwarf almost every other way of getting around. the Roll Royce Phanton emmissions are 377g of CO2 almost 5 times the amounts generated by the equivalent tube ride.
Director of the ETA, Andrew Davis, said: “Luckily for Londoners, the healthiest, greenest and quickest way of getting about is also the cheapest – cycling wins hands down.”
So it seems have a think about it this week and in this lovely summer buy a bike.
