After making its first showing at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, the New ford Focus ST is here. ready to satisfy enthusiastic drivers with an exceptional and rewarding driving experience.

DNA has been advanced with upgrades to the power train, suspension, steering and the onboard electronic control systems. The Ford RS team have taken it all one just step further with this model.

For the first time a diesel engine is available in a Focus ST, available as a 185 PS 2 Litre TDCI engine. The well renowned high performance 250 PS 2.0 Litre EcoBoost is the petrol engine, but now with improved economy and emissions, Euro Stage VI compliant and now with Start-Stop tech.

Sharper more tuned suspension optimised for sportier driving, ensuring a quality ride and driving dynamics are maintained at all times. The steering on the New Focus ST has been calibrated to be even more responsive bringing a quicker turn in and improved balance.

Standard on all models are the slick 18 inch ST Design Alloys, another option is the 18 inch in a grey finish matched with red brake callipers. The best option is the new 19 inch with 235/35/19 low profile Michelin Sport 3 tyres. This combination was developed by Ford and Michelin for an even more dynamic performance and improved lateral grip.

Adaptive Front Lighting

Optimised illumination – A welcome addition to the Focus ST is the upgrade to the front lighting. Now adaptive and able to adjust the intensity and angle of the Bi-Xenon High Intensity Discharge Headlamp beams by vehicle speed and distance to oncoming objects. Brighter, clearer, safer on the road.

Electronic Control Systems

The Focus ST on the road uses a three stage Electronic Stability Programme, drivers can choose the level of electronic intervention they want the system to give. The system has been retuned for the New Focus ST with an Electronic Transitional Stability Function to improve control and precision in driving during rapid direction changes at speed. The Torque vectoring has also been re-calibrated and enhanced further.

What Else?

The Focus ST incorporates a rear spoiler and rear diffuser with centre twin tailpipes. Deeper side skirts on the sides and the front bumper is restyled along with the upper and lower grille with new fog lamp bezels.

On the inside a lot of sporty black, the steering wheel features a flat base with a soft leather feel, body hugging Recaro seats and the sharp looking ST gear, including gear lever and pedals, door sill scuff plates, ST dials and the New Ford SYNC 8 inch touch screen. A turbo boost gauge, oil pressure and oil temperature gauge finish off the sporty look.

Performance – The 2.0 Litre Diesel delivers 0-62 mph/h in 8.1 seconds, power 185 PS, torque 400 Nm, with a maximum speed of 135mph, combined fuel consumption of 64.2 mpg and 114 g/km Co2.

The petrol model is notably faster with slightly less torque 360 Nm, but higher CO2 158 g/km Co2 and higher fuel consumption. The 2.0 Litre EcoBoost is altogether more rapid with acceleration of 0-62 mph/h in 6.5 seconds and a maximum speed of 154mph.

Dependent on how green your performance needs are, the diesel option seems like the better choice.
