The All-New Upscale Ford Edge joins the booming SUV Market
Priced from just £29,995 with class leading space for up to five passengers, this sophisticated new Ford SUV joins the Kuga and EcoSport in a three-car line up of capable SUVs.
The all-new Ford Edge is already very popular in North America and now it’s ready to shake’n’bake over here. The latest Edge made its European debut at the Frankfurt Motorshow in 2015 and is built at Ford’s Oakville Plant in Ontario, Canada.
The UK Edge models will be available with a choice of a 180PS 2.0-litre TDCi diesel engine with six-speed manual transmission, or 210PS bi-turbo 2.0‑litre TDCi diesel with six-speed PowerShift automatic transmission. Using Auto-Start-Stop technology they will aim to deliver 48.7mpg fuel efficiency and 149g/km CO2.
Edge’s luxury interior has been designed with high-quality materials throughout. Soft-touch trims on the dashboard and centre console, high-gloss piano black surrounds on the switch bezels and a satin silver metal finish features extensively. As expected, Edge is also offered with heated and cooled front seats and also, heated rear seats on the Titanium models.
The new cars come with the latest Ford tech:
Adaptive steering: making the car easier than ever to manoeuvre at lower speeds, but precise and intuitive at higher speed. I tested the system on a demo vehicle and it really is a bonus on a larger vehicle.
Front Wide View camera: makes restricted visibility at junctions or while parking easy to negotiate.
Pre-Collision Assist with Pedestrian Detection: Edge debuts the segment-first system that can detect vehicles and people in the road ahead automatically applying the brakes to avoid a crash, if the driver does not respond to warnings.
Intelligent All-Wheel Drive (AWD): Delivers a seamless transition between front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive, with minimal impact on fuel consumption and CO2 emissions, but providing more surefooted performance on the road and especially in slippery conditions.
With further additions of acoustic and laminated glass, wheel arch liners and underbody panels all set to minimise wind noise and road noise. All Edge models also use Ford’s latest Active Noise Control that detects unwanted engine noise in the cabin, cancelling it out with opposing sound waves fed through the integrated sound system. A system that works well in the latest Ford Vignale
“The Edge makes the Ford product line-up for 2016 never stronger. It will deliver more room for passengers than large competitor SUVs that cost considerably more. The styling and suite of comfort, convenience and safety technologies in Edge rival the premium offerings available in the UK,”Andy Barratt, chairman and managing director of Ford of Britain
