A heart warming Valentines day tale. Land Rover New Zealand secretly rescues and restores a cherished Series 1 Land Rover.
Land Rover New Zealand secretly purchased the beaten and broken series 1 Land Rover on an auction website. ‘The Landy’ was owned by four university friends, the website listing told of their many adventures and sadness at having to depart with the vehicle after 15 years of onwnership.
The four ‘mates’, Will Radford, Jeremy Wells, Anthony Dawson and James Shatwell thought they were closing a chapter of their lives with the sale. Fate intervened , the team at Land Rover New Zealand spotted the ad and hatched a plan with Will’s wife, Claire.
‘The Landy’ was then given a painstaking ground-up mechanical restoration by Land Rover New Zealand.
Following restoration ‘The Landy’ was taken on a whistle-stop tour of New Zealand’s South Island to relive some of the original adventures Will Radford showcased in his TradeMe listing, before returning to Auckland just in time for Will’s wife to hide it in their shed, ready to unveil to the four unsuspecting friends as their ultimate Valentine’s Day present.
Today on Valentines day the four friends have been re-united with the vehicle.
This Valentine’s Day project is part of the final historic year celebrations for the Defender model. This year is the final year of production at Solihull, the Land Rover Defender is the direct descendent of the Series I Land Rover.
