The MG HS goes to the top of the tables

In MG, Short Cuts by Jonathan Humphrey

The MG HS was revealed as the UK’s best selling car in January 2023, according to the latest SMMT vehicle sales data.

This includes petrol and plug-in hybrid models of the MG HS, for a total of 3,481 registrations. The MG ZS was also named a best-seller, with the compact SUV model announced as the UK’s 8th best-selling car, respectively.

The large SUV model, which comes in either Petrol or Plug-In Hybrid trim, led UK sales in the first month of 2023, taking 2.6% of the market.

The total number of MG vehicles sold in the UK increased by over 108% compared to January 2022, reaching 7,433. SMMT statistics from January show that overall electric vehicle sales increased by 19.8% year on year, suggesting that the new, all-electric MG4 and MG5 models have continued to be popular since their arrival in Autumn 2022.

The news comes on the heels of 2022’s record-breaking sales for MG Motor UK, which earned the firm the title of the fastest-growing mainstream vehicle brand for a second year running, making this an excellent start to the year.

MG Motor UK’s Commercial Director, Guy Pigounakis, was ecstatic that two of the company’s best-selling vehicles had made it into the top ten. The HS model has played a significant role in MG’s expansion over the past few years, so it’s great to see that it’s still a best-seller. With the recently released MG4 EV and MG5 EV models, we anticipate continuing success well into 2023, thanks in large part to the burgeoning electric vehicle market.

The MG HS series is the largest car available from the brand and starts at just £23,495, providing an unrivalled blend of room, luxury, technology, and value for money.

If you’re looking for a reasonably priced entry point into zero-emissions driving, the MG HS Plug-in Hybrid range starts at £31,095. It mates the 1.5-litre turbocharged engine found in the petrol variant with a 90kW electric motor to produce an EV-only range of 32 miles.

Active Emergency Braking, Lane Keep Assist, Traffic Jam Assist, and Adaptive Cruise Control are just some of the technologies included in MG’s state-of-the-art driver-aid package, MG Pilot, included on all MG HS models.

MG is the UK’s fastest-growing car brand, thanks to its innovative and environmentally friendly electric vehicles.
