Strangely enough, lots of my favourite words start with the letters ‘tw’ twinkle, twit, twiglet, twizzle, twerp, twit twoo and now ‘Twingo’.
Lisa Richardson puts the Renault Twingo Iconic La Parisienne through its paces city shopping.
I loved having this chic compact city car to test drive for the week. This car had such a happy vibe that I just kept wanting to nip out all the time – zipping about to getting stuff done became such a pleasure. My husband kept saying “ do you really need to go out again ?” ‘Not really but I want to !” And it didn’t matter anyway as it was fab in terms of fuel consumption, doing around 60 miles per gallon which in my week driving around Bournemouth it hardly touched the fuel gauge. It’s a real ‘can do’ car, light, easy and fun.
In my opinion, it is a total girls’ car – mint green with black and white crosshatch decals featuring La Parisienne badging – smart, modish and cute. It has glossy black door mirrors, grille beading, and 16-inch aluminium alloy wheels. It’s crisp and has been clearly influenced by the design of the 1963-1967 Renault 4 Parisienne car – combining city style and sharp fashion.
For a small car, it is very comfortable and I enjoyed the fact that it’s quite high off the ground. The interior is surprisingly spacious providing room for elderly parents and teenagers to fit in nicely. I enjoyed the shiny surfaces, matt textures and crosshatched upholstery textiles. Having the engine in the rear creates more room for your stuff. The flat boot floor in the back of the Twingo means that you can maximise the space. Great for dangerous retail therapy or visits to Ikea for smaller flat pack furniture.
Everything about the Twingo is effortless and efficient. Parking is a piece of cake because of the handling, parking camera and the really impressive turning circle of 8.59 m. One thing that I did find slightly tricky was that I had to keep my eye on the dial as the digital speedometer is in Kilometers.
It’s well equipped too all boldly designed inside, with easy to work DAB digital radio. In the cabin its also generously loaded with pockets and bins to put things.
I am not the world’s greatest driver but adore driving cars – and in particular convertibles. This stylish compact car is great in terms of making the most of the unpredictable British weather and the winter sunshine. It’s incredibly quick and easy to get the sunroof to open using the electric button.

All together I had a lot of fun with the Twingo and felt like it really did embrace Renault’s slogan ‘ Passion for Life’.
