The Iconic Silver Ghost Mascot to Feature in Scorcese Drama

Great news, Martin Scorsese, Lord Attenborough and Anthony Haas are joining forces to make a film of the dramatic affair behind the Rolls-Royce SILVER GHOST story.

This Silver Ghost story will tell the story of Lord John Douglas-Scott Montagu of Beaulieu, and his secret love affair with his secretary and mistress. The film will dramatise the affair between John and Eleanor Velasco Thornton. It will also show the connection with his friends Charles Rolls and Henry Royce and the British artist and sculptor Charles Sykes who fashioned the first mascot.

Eleanor Velasco Thornton was the model for the iconic Spirit of Ecstasy mascot, created by Sykes, still to this day the mascot adorns Rolls-Royce cars. Surely a bold move putting your mistress on the front of a car!

Martin Scorsese remarked, “When I read the story of SILVER GHOST, I was mesmerised. I immediately thought: this is a picture that has to be made.”

The SILVER GHOST love story is not only between men and women, but men and their early cars at the turn of the last century.

John Montagu’s son, Edward, founder of the National Motor Museum, notes, “It is a remarkable story which has long been a family secret.  I am delighted that Martin Scorsese has joined Richard Attenborough and Anthony Haas in bringing it to the screen.”

Visit Beaulieu, its worth a drive to the New Forest.
