In Jaecoo, Short Cuts, SUV by Jonathan Humphrey

The order books are now open for this sub £30k, JAECOO 7 family SUV

The Jaecoo 7. Starting at £29,435 for the petrol version and £35,065 for the Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) version, this premium SUV is competitively priced and available with a choice of two powertrains.

Excellent off-road performance, efficiency, and aesthetics are all part of the Jaecoo 7’s package. You can opt for the Jaecoo 7 with either front or four-wheel drive so that it can handle both urban and off-road terrains.

The 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine model gets up to 37.7 mpg (WLTP) while producing 108 kW (147 PS) and 275 Nm of torque.

The front-wheel drive models come with a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) powertrain with an 18.3 kW battery, an electric range of 56 miles, and an engine producing 150 kW (204 PS) and 310 Nm of torque. The Jaecoo 7 PHEV receives an impressive 403 mpg overall, or 47 mpg when the battery is fully charged, thanks to its 60-litre fuel tank and long 745-mile range (WLTP). Its CO₂ emissions are a meagre 23 g/km.

The four-wheel drive version is perfect for traversing any terrain in any weather. It has a 600 mm wading depth and seven driving modes (including Sand, Mud, Snow, and Off-Road). With a maximum breakover angle of 200 mm, the Jaecoo 7 has approach and departure angles rated at 21 and 29 degrees, respectively. On versions with four-wheel drive, an Integrated Power Brake (IPB) technology designed by Bosch mimics a differential lock but has better and quicker locking capabilities. With a reaction time of less than 0.1 seconds, this technology offers the quickest 4WD response times in its class.

The Jaecoo 7’s elegant external design combines strong accents with simple lines. Split daytime running lights and headlights flank a massive vertical waterfall grille up front, giving the vehicle an air of unmistakable opulence. An athleticism-enhancing defined crease line runs from front to back, and electrically controlled flush-fitting door handles enhance the vehicle’s aerodynamic efficiency. A full-length rear light bar with distinctive light signatures is used to highlight the new SUV’s wide stance.

With its roomy cabin, the Jaecoo 7 offers a high-end ambience centred around technology and superb comfort. A head-up display (HUD) and a 10.25-inch LCD instrument cluster sit above the 14.8-inch high-resolution touchscreen in the cabin. Amenities include a panoramic roof, an eight-speaker Sony sound system, multi-colour inside lighting, and 50 W wireless phone charging.

With its array of advanced driver-assistance (ADAS) features, including a 540-degree panoramic video system that offers 360-degree safety and a clear view of the vehicle’s environment, the new SUV from JAECOO is easy to handle both on and off-road. A 4,500 mm wheelbase, 1,865 mm width, and 1,680 mm height characterise the vehicle.

A standard seven-year/100,000-mile guarantee covers the Jaecoo 7, and it has already achieved worldwide five-star safety requirements.

For more than 20 years, Chery International has been China’s leading exporter of vehicles, and the Jaecoo brand is a part of that. The term “Jäger” comes from a combination of the German words “hunter” and “cool”; this is to emphasise that it can adapt to any setting. Aiming to go “From Classic, Beyond Classic,” Jaecoo was born out of over a decade of expertise gathered via a partnership with the most renowned off-road vehicle manufacturer in the world.

Jaecoo is accepting orders and will begin shipping to the United Kingdom in January.
