Used Mitsubishi ASX for sale: everything you need to know
The Mitsubishi ASX is an often-overlooked SUV that was a bit of a departure for the Japanese carmaker, better known for its Shogun and L200 pickup models.
Adding to the niche appeal of the Mitsubishi ASX is the fact that the company no longer sells cars in the UK, although that does mean if you find your preferred used examples, they should be competitively priced.
Later models are the ones to go for having been spruced up and offered with a little more in the way of features and functionality. There’s even a four-wheel-drive automatic variant that looks to be good value if you’re working to a tight budget.
The looks and general presentation of the Mitsubishi ASX might look a little jaded, especially when put up against the competition. However, with prices being keen for used examples, the Mitsubishi is still worth considering if you need an SUV but don’t want to blow your entire budget to get one.
Alternatives to the Mitsubishi ASX are numerous, with the likes of the Citroen C3 Aircross, the Dacia Duster and Hyundai Kona all being worthy substitutes. The Renault Captur is also in the running if you’re looking for value.
Should you buy a Mitsubishi ASX?
The Mitsubishi ASX might get ignored by many shopping for their first or next SUV, but that’s not to say it isn’t a worthy purchase. The good thing with being less popular than other models is that prices remain lower, which is a bonus if you’re in the market for an affordable SUV.
The downside is the Mitsubishi ASX looks a little tired compared to rivals, but it’s got most things you’ll need for comfortable high-up motoring. The four-wheel-drive model, with an automatic gearbox, could prove handy if you’re faced with occasional off-road scenarios.
However, if you’re putting it up against the likes of the Suzuki Vitara, the Nissan Qashqai or the Skoda Karoq it does start to look rather dated. Get a used example for the right price though and it could still be a bargain buy.

What’s the best used Mitsubishi ASX model to buy?
The answer to this question kind of depends on what your priority is. For us, the best ASX is the cheapest ASX, so we’d stick with the entry-level 1.6-litre petrol engine in a fairly humble trim level. The entry-level 2 trim comes with enough for many people, but the 3 trim adds some desirable items for not much cash, and is worth the upgrade. If you want the best all-round version of the ASX, you’re probably looking at one of the 1.6-litre diesels, but these will cost you a good bit more to buy.
Used Mitsubishi ASX fuel economy and performance
Mitsubishi ASX 2.0L petrol: The sole engine for the ASX is the 142PS lump that comes mated to either a manual gearbox or an automatic. These return 37.7mpg and up to 50mpg respectively. Note, however, that if you plump for the auto and four-wheel-drive the economy drops away to less than 35mpg, for obvious reasons.
What used Mitsubishi ASX trim levels are available?
The Mitsubishi ASX has been available in two trim levels, with both the Dynamic and Exceed variant offering a decent level of features and functionality.
The Mitsubishi ASX Dynamic is the more basic of the two, but you do get standard issue features including climate control, cruise control, heated front seats and a rear-view camera. On the outside there are LED headlights.
The Mitsubishi ASX Exceed is a little more comprehensive with everything seen on the Dynamic car along with an 8-inch infotainment system. This carries DAB radio, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto along with TomTom satellite navigation. The exterior is fancier too, thanks to 18-inch alloys, LED daytime running lights as well as privacy glass.
