  • New tech includes Mobile Device Key, Vehicle-to-Load and Launch Control

CUPRA has revised the electric Tavascan range, adding a new entry-level Origin trim, bringing in new technology and powertrain choices, and dropping prices on selected models. The new range is on sale now, priced from £39,995.

The Tavascan line-up now includes five trim levels – Origin, V1, V2, VZ and VZ Extreme – and three motors, thanks to the addition of a 190PS 58kWh battery, which can be had on Origin, V1 and V2 trims.

The 58kWh option is offered alongside the existing 286PS and 340PS options, both powered by a 77kWh battery.

In addition to adding more trim choices, the Tavascan has been treated to new technology. From V1 trim upwards, you get Mobile Device Key, which lets you use your phone as the car’s key, and vehicle to load functionality, so you can charge electronic devices like e-bikes directly from the car.

From V2 trim, buyers now get a 12-speaker Sennheiser Contrabass audio system and from VZ trim, cars come equipped with launch control.

Priced from £39,995, the new Origin trim includes 19-inch alloys, climate control, heated front seats, a 10.25-inch Digital Cockpit and a 15-inch central infotainment display. It’s currently only available with the newly introduced 190PS 58kWh battery.

The Origin trim is part of a wider change to Tavascan prices that came into effect from 1st July, with models across the range costing up to £1600 less. That saving is for a Tavascan V1 with the 286PS 77kWh, which now costs from £45,750.

VZ and VZ Extreme models also benefit from reductions of £1060 and £1005 respectively, bringing their prices to £54,930 and £59,830.

New CUPRA Tavascan rivals and used alternatives

CUPRA has revised the Tavascan to help it keep pace with a number of popular rivals. Most obvious of which is the Ford Capri, which uses the same platform as the Tavascan, and resurrects a classic name from Ford’s history.

The Kia EV6 is also likely to be on buyers’ minds, offering a spacious interior, plenty of equipment and a sharp drive in addition to its striking looks. There’s also the Tesla Model Y and Polestar 2 to consider, if making a less overt style statement appeals
