Skoda Superb Estate takes overall Towcar of the Year title
Taking top honours overall, the Skoda Superb Estate SE L 2.0 TDI 193PS DSG 4x4 was praised by the event’s judges for its “wonderfully smooth ride, effortless driveability and high levels of comfort. The judges concluded that the Skoda Superb Estate continues to set the benchmark for what makes a great towcar.”
In addition to its overall win, the Superb won the best car for towing a caravan weighing between 1600kg and 1700kg, plus the Family Towcars category.
What’s more, Skoda also took the win in the 1700kg to 1800kg category, with the Skoda Kodiaq IV Sportline 1.5 TSI 204PS DSG proving to be the top choice, thanks to its strong acceleration and comfortable interior.

Volkswagen T-Roc and Touareg take class wins
VW took victories in two classes, thanks to the T-Roc and Touareg. The Volkswagen T-Roc R-Line 1.5 eTSI 150PS won the 1100kg to 1400kg category. Commenting on the win, the judges said: “This stylish compact SUV has long impressed caravanners. The car tested had Volkswagen’s perennial 1.5-litre mild-hybrid petrol engine and it really shone. There was more than enough power for hill starts and the car handled well with good refinement.”
Going up in size, the Volkswagen Touareg Final Edition 3.0 TDI 4MOTION 286PS was the judgess pick for towing caravans of 1800kg to 2000kg. They added that ‘This SUV has always impressed, but especially so this year as it had an unbeatable combination of power, refinement, comfort and driving dynamics. It excelled in this class, delivering effortless acceleration and smooth six-cylinder refinement.”

Bentley Bentayga named Best Luxury Towcar
At the top of the towing tree, the Bentley Bentayga EWB Atelier Edition was judged the Best Luxury Towcar, thanks to its exceptional engine performance. “For those who like to tour and still have a vehicle that is as opulent as a stately home, the Bentayga is the best,” noted the judges.
How the Towcar Awards are judged
Billed as the leisure industry’s original and longest-standing towcar testing awards, competition is fierce. This year, 42 vehicles took part, each capable of towing a trailer weighing 750kg or more and on sale in the UK on 1st October 2026 to qualify.
All vehicles entered were checked for their 'caravanability', which considers the practicality of each car, including boot space, towball height and ability to carry equipment commonly taken on a caravan holiday.
Cars were then hitched to caravans ballasted to 85% of the vehicle's kerbweight, or the vehicle's towing limit where that is lower, and measured for acceleration and braking performance.
Finally, each car and caravan combination was test driven at UTAC Millbrook, to assess performance on gradients, hill starts, downhill braking, high-speed stability, reversing, comfort, visibility and their ability to join fast-moving traffic.
The Superb's win means Skoda has now claimed seven overall victories and 35 category wins since 2002.
