  • Grand California MY2027 order books now open, prices start at £68,960+VAT

  • New Dune Special Edition adds more design and comfort features

  • Solar panels offered as a new option

Order books are now open for the updated Volkswagen Grand California, priced from £68,960 plus VAT. Revised interior materials, the option of solar panels and new Dune Special Edition trim mark out the new model

The Grand California continues to be available in 6 and 6.6m lengths, and now features improved Atami Bamboo interior trim, with a matching wood effect floor covering. VW claims the new additions “create a warm and high-quality cabin.”

The 2027 model year Grand California also gets additional storage areas and a fold-out table.

On the options list for the first time is the Off Grid Package. This includes factory-fitted solar panels which feed an extra pair of 40Ah LiFePO₄ batteries. Volkswagen states that these provide a 40% increase in the Grand California’s usable battery capacity, allowing campers to stay off-grid for longer.

New Volkswagen Grand California price and release date

Prices for the 2027 Grand California start at £68,960 without VAT, or £84,208 on the road. The updated camper is on sale now, and all also include VW’s 5 Plus Promise that includes the van’s first five services, a five-year warranty, five years of roadside assistance and the first three MOTs.

Finance buyers can take advantage of an introductory offer for £499 a month. That's for the Grand California 600 163PS 2.0 TDI, based on a 48-month, 10,000 mile per year Solutions Personal Contract Plan agreement, and requires a £22,930.54 deposit, but includes a £5000 deposit contribution.

The Grand California is available in standard trim or as a new Dune Special Edition, which costs £1000+VAT more. For that, you get an Ascot Grey exterior with contrast black bumpers and Dune decals that are unique to the model, 17-inch black alloys, Climatronic air conditioning, ambient lighting and LED headlights.

New Volkswagen Grand California rivals and used alternatives

VW’s California and Grand California models are unusual in that they’re fully factory built camper vans, rather than a chassis supplied to a third-party for construction and customisation.

Rivals for the Grand California include models like the Hymer Grand Canyon S, which is built on a Mercedes Sprinter chassis similar in size to the Crafter van used to make the Grand California. Starting prices are higher than the VW.

Westfalia uses the same Crafter base for its Sven Hedin model, which features a pop-up roof for extra headroom. Prices climb higher if you opt for mid or top-range models, however.
