We reckon the e-Power hybrid model, added in 2022, is the best offering for the Nissan Qashqai. It gives you more performance than either of the pure petrol models, yet it's just as smooth (and even smooth around town) and more efficient too.
If you simply can't stomach the extra cost of the hybrid, though, we'd recommend the 158PS mild-hybrid with the automatic gearbox. In terms of trim level, avoid basic Visia models, but resist the urge to pay top-whack for a high-spec Tekna or Tekna+ model. The N-Connecta provides a good compromise, while you might find a good deal on a Premiere Edition model.

Used Nissan Qashqai fuel economy and performance
- Nissan Qashqai DiG-T 140 petrol: The cheapest Nissan Qashqai comes with a 1.3-litre four-cylinder turbo petrol engine putting out 140PS. Offered only with a six-speed manual gearbox, it does 0-60mph in 10.6 seconds and is claimed to achieve 44.8mpg combined.
- Nissan Qashqai DiG-T 158 petrol: The top engine available to order now in the Qashqai is the DiG-T 158. With a more powerful 158PS 1.3-litre four-cylinder turbo petrol engine, it manages 0-62mph in 9.5 seconds. Options for this engine include the two-wheel drive manual (which manages 44.5mpg) and four-wheel drive Xtronic automatic (which manages 40mpg).
- Nissan Qashqai e-Power hybrid: The Qashqai e-Power hybrid isn’t a plug-in, but its self-charging hybrid system is clever, combining the 1.3-litre petrol engine with an electric motor to put out 190PS. The engine actually doesn’t power the wheels, it serves as an electricity generator to either charge the small battery pack, power the electric motor directly or both. Promising 53.3mpg combined, it’ll be available to order soon.
Those looking at the last-generation Nissan Qashqai will find more engine choice, with 1.2, 1.3 and 1.6-litre DiG-T turbo petrol engines. There’s also 1.5 and 1.6-litre dCi diesel engines.
What used Nissan Qashqai trim levels are available?

- The Nissan Qashqai Visia is the entry-level model, and it’s only available in front-wheel drive form with the mild-hybrid 140PS DiG-T petrol engine and a manual gearbox.
- The Nissan Qashqai Acenta Premium is offered with the same 140PS engine, but can also be specced with the 158PS DiG-T petrol engine offered with a manual or Xtronic automatic gearbox.
- The Nissan Qashqai N-Connecta is a more desirable mid-spec model, with a classier design and better infotainment. It’s also available with the 140PS or 158PS DiG-T petrol engines, but can also be specced with four-wheel drive.
- The flagship Tekna and Tekna+ models are available with two or four-wheel drive, although only the cheaper Tekna can be had with the 140PS engine. Tekna+ adds premium technology and driver assists.
