Used Toyota Aygo X for sale: everything you need to know
The Toyota Aygo X sits comfortably in the category of supermini, on the smaller end, as a faux-SUV styled small car that looks like it could go off-road with the toughest of them. It's worth noting that despite the look, this isn't a four-wheel drive car and is for on-road use only.
Toyota launched the Aygo X in 2022, following on from the regular Toyota Aygo that's been about since 2005 – this version now features a larger boot space and plenty of tech upgrades. While this model commands a supermini price, it's smaller than many and doesn't offer quite the quality of interior the price might suggest. But it makes up for that with its fun and funky design.
Coming in one engine size only, a small 1.0-litre petrol, this is very much a city car – although it is manual as standard. You do get some great features made available including LED headlights, up to 18-inch alloys, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto on a touchscreen system plus a larger boot than many in this category.
While the rear seats won't offer much room for larger riders, this does pack in five seats and plenty of safety kit as standard.
Key rivals for the Toyota Aygo X include the Hyundai i10, Kia Picanto and Fiat 500. Or, if you want proper off-road 4x4 then the Suzuki Ignis and Fiat Panda 4x4 are viable four-wheel drive supermini options.
Should you buy a used Toyota Aygo X?
The Toyota Aygo X is a good city car if you want something that will stand out a bit versus the competition and is still great in its new and used versions.
The direct steering and compact build make this ideal for zipping about in cities and that 1.0-litre engine can make driving very affordable too.
Despite being a smaller car you do get a lot of kit for your money, even on the entry level model. Expect to have plenty of safety gear, a reversing camera and even adaptive cruise control with driver attention alert. So while this might be priced higher than some of the competition, that money does go to good use.
Splash out on the higher end versions of this car and you can enjoy a convertible version, LED headlights, emergency steering assist and both front and rear parking sensors.
The engine is a standard 1.0-litre petrol with no other options. While that three-cylinder 72 BHP setup might sound small, it's well tuned with the manual transmission standard for easy town driving, if not a little revvy at times.
There are four trim options to pick from: Pure, Edge, Exclusive and Undercover. On new models there are lots of options to personalise that setup to suit your needs.
The Toyota Aygo X offers an impressive safety tech selection which makes it ideal for busy city driving. The tech levels should mean this has a good residual value for re-sale options. There's also that 231-litre boot, giving it more space than a lot of the competition and meaning even Ikea trips are possible with this supermini.
The previous-generation Toyota Aygo is also a decent option as it features much of the same setup only with a smaller boot and less up to date tech. But as such you could make a saving here.

What’s the best used Toyota Aygo X model to buy?
The Toyota Aygo X comes with the same 1.0-litre petrol engine in all trims and despite there being four to pick from the differences aren't too great.
The entry level Pure variant comes with smaller 17-inch alloys than the others, and a smaller 7-inch infotainment screen. But you still get auto headlights, air con, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, adaptive cruise control, pre-collision and cyclist detection, reversing camera, leather trim steering wheel and power front windows.
Move up to the Edge trim and you get 18-inch alloys, 8-inch touchscreen, auto air con and wipers, rear privacy glass, and an exterior bi-tone/metallic paint finish.
The Exclusive model comes with 18-inch alloys, a larger 9-inch multimedia system, part synthetic leather interior, LED headlights, front and rear parking sensors, smart entry and start, auto brake and wireless smartphone charger. The top-end Undercover is very similar to the Exclusive only it adds exterior decals.
All models come with that 72 BHP engine and a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard on this front-wheel drive car. They all have the option to go for an automatic CVT gearbox.

- Toyota Aygo X 1.0-litre petrol: All four models feature the same petrol engine that gets you 72 BHP delivered to the front-wheel drive system. That will get you a 0-62mph time of 14.9 seconds and a CO2 emission figure of 110 g/km. The top speed of this 5-gear car is 98 mph and the official fuel consumption is 56 mpg.
What used Toyota Aygo X trim levels are available?
The current Toyota Aygo X has four trim levels available: Pure, Edge, Exclusive and Undercover – the last adding exterior styling variants.
- The Toyota Aygo X Pure is the entry-level trim, and is the most affordable to buy or lease. It’s available with manual or auto gearbox and features 17-inch alloys.
- The Toyota Aygo X Edge is the mid-level trim, with larger alloys and extra automation.
- The Toyota Aygo X Exclusive is the most premium version with a larger infotainment screen, LED headlights, smart entry, front and rear parking sensors and auto braking.
- The Toyota Aygo X Undercover is the same as Exclusive only with limited edition decals on the exterior.

The Aygo X, which arrived in 2021, has a decent tax bracket since it falls into Band F which means you pay the standard minimum of £180 annually. This applies across all variants and is only slightly more in the first year, at £185 or £210, for the auto models, before dropping back to £180 yearly.
